World O.R.S. day

The world celebrates 29th July yearly to mark the importance of oral rehydration solutions (O.R.S.). **"Acute diarrhoeal diseases are among the leading causes of mortality in infants and young children in many developing countries"- W.H.O.

A combination of electrolytes and sugar averts or reverses dehydration, replaces lost salts, and may be called "The Amrut in Dehydration"

Kids or adults – whatever your age is, O.R.S. can be of help.

$ Children suffering from diarrhoea become severely dehydrated due to fluid & nutrient loss. Frequent intake of Oral rehydration solutions can effectively treat the dehydration caused by diarrhoea or any medical conditions like heat stroke or similar illnesses resulting in loss of body fluids.

O.R.S. sachets are a combination in powder form of:

Sodium Chloride, anhydrous Glucose, Potassium chloride &Trisodium citrate- dehydrate. And the entire content of the packet is to be mixed in one litre of drinking water.

* If O.R.S. packets are unavailable; you can prepare them at home.

1. Clean Water - 1 liter - 5 cupfuls (each cup about 200 ml.)

2. Sugar - Six level teaspoons (1 teaspoon = 5grams)

3. Salt - Half-level teaspoon.

4. Stir the mixture till the sugar dissolves.

5. Consume within 24 hrs.

This solution is also adequate in most cases and is very effective for rehydration.

# Caution:

Do not use milk, juice, extra sugar or salt.

Be careful to use the right amount of water.

Avoid soft drinks, tea, and coffee for a while.

Seek prompt medical advice whenever necessary.
