Own Damage Car Insurance

Own-damage (OD) car insurance is a standalone policy that covers damage to your car caused by accidents, fire, man-made or natural disasters and theft. It can be purchased only if you already have a valid third-party car policy.

For instance, if you get car insurance from the dealer when buying a new car, the own damage coverage you get under the plan will only be for a year, while the third-party coverage will be for three years. In this case, you can buy the Reliance own damage car insurance policy to ensure your car stays covered once the dealer's 1-year OD plan expires. If you're looking for a car policy, with Reliance General Insurance, you can get an own-damage car insurance plan separately or bundled with third-party car insurance.

We also offer options to increase coverage through our 13+ add-ons (and 3 EV add-ons), cashless claims at over 11,000+ network garages, and quick online processes for claims and renewals.

Own Damage Car Insurance Policy

Benefits of Own-Damage (OD) Car Insurance

Flexible Coverage

We offer short-term own damage plans that last for 3-4 months, as per your requirements. For car owners who require extended coverage, we offer long-term OD plans of up to 1 year* to provide uninterrupted protection.

Cost Effective

If you are a new car owner who gets 3 years of 3rd Party liability coverage through the dealer, SAOD insurance can help you get complete coverage. Simply buy this policy and protect your car more efficiently.

Pay As You Drive Option

We offer a Pay As You Drive add-on with our SAOD car insurance. With this add-on, you can set your driving limit from 2,500 km to 10,500 km*, and only pay for the distance you drive per year, resulting in higher savings.

You Still Get Add-Ons

With Reliance own Damage Car Insurance, you get access to 13+ add-ons* like engine protection, nil depreciation, return-to-invoice, etc, along with 3 EV-specific add-ons*.

Up to 90% Discount!

Get up to 80%* discount on OD premiums with an additional 10% discount with the PAYD add-on. But that's not all - you also get more discounts for protecting vehicles with anti-theft devices and memberships in automobile associations.

Personal Accident Cover

A personal accident cover is mandatory for every car owner/driver in India. That's why we offer this additional cover under our OD plan with coverage up to ₹15 lakh* to cover medical expenses for injuries caused by road accidents.

Add-Ons Available with Own-Damage Car Insurance

Pay As You Drive (Limit Pay Sure)

Money Saver

Save on premiums by paying based on actual kilometers driven with this add-on. You can choose between 2,500 and 10,500 km* based on your car’s usage. So, if you stay very close to your workplace or have permanent work from home, this is the best option to save on premiums.

Nil Depreciation Cover

Money Saver

Nil depreciation, also known as bumper to bumper, add-on ensures you receive the full claim amount for replacing parts like plastic, rubber, and fiber without deductions for depreciation. This is a must-have for new or high-value cars.

Return-to-Invoice Cover

Money Saver

This add-on ensures that you receive the complete purchase amount (including taxes and registration fees) in case your car gets damaged in an accident, is stolen or cannot be repaired. Typically, without this add–on, the claim received is after deducting the deductible amount.

Engine & Gearbox Protection Cover

Extra Car Protection

The engine is the most important part of your car, and engine repairs can be expensive. This add-on covers the repair costs of the car engine or its parts for damages caused by water ingression (water entering the engine), oil leakage, or accidental impact.

Tyre Protection

Extra Car Protection

This add-on covers repairs and replacement of tyres and tubes damaged by accidents, cuts or bursts or bulges caused by poor road accidents. Since tyre replacements can be costly, this add-on will ensure your out-of-pocket expenses are reduced.

Key Replacement Cover (Key and Lock Replacement)

Extra Car Protection

Most modern vehicles rely on smart keys and remote locking systems, making their replacement costly in case of loss or damage. Hence, this add-on covers key replacement, lockset repairs and even smart key reprogramming.

Consumables Expenses

Money Saver

When your car is damaged, the repair process also involves replacing minor consumables, such as nuts, bolts, oil or brake fluids. These costs can go up to 5%-10%* of the total cost. This add-on covers the consumables costs, ensuring complete protection.

Rim Protection

Extra Car Protection

Since your stylish rims can sustain damage due to accidents, curbs or poor road conditions, repairing them can be expensive. This add-on covers the repair and replacement cost of all four of your car’s rims, which are typically not covered under a standard policy.

24/7 Roadside Assistance Cover

Extra Car Protection

With this add-on, you receive emergency services like towing, fuel delivery, flat tyre replacement, battery jumpstarts and on-site repairs at any time and anywhere. Simply call the helpline number (022 48903009) or use the Reliance Self-i App for assistance.

Loss of Personal Belongings

Extra Car Protection

If valuable items like your laptop, phone, or bags (worth ₹5,000 or more) are stolen from your locked car, this add-on provides compensation. It reduces the financial strain and helps you recover*, making it ideal for those who frequently carry work or personal items in their vehicle.

Daily Allowance Benefit

Money Saver

If your car is being repaired at any of our network garages for more than 3 days, you can rely on this cover for support. It provides you with a daily cash allowance for alternate travel costs like cab fares or train tickets until your car is back on the road.

EMI Protection Cover

Money Saver

If your car is undergoing repairs at a garage for over 21, 42, or 63 days*, this covers your monthly car loan EMIs for the chosen tenure. This add-on cover will reduce financial stress during unexpected delays, making it ideal for those who pay high monthly EMIs.

EV Battery Protection

EV Car Protection

Protects your electric or hybrid car's battery from damage caused by accidents, water, power surges or mechanical shocks. Since EV batteries are expensive, this add-on is a must-have for EV owners.

Electric Motor Protect

EV Car Protection

The electric motor is vital for your EV’s functioning, but it’s vulnerable to water damage, short circuits, overheating, etc. This add-on covers repair costs for motor damage, sparing you from unexpected expenses.

EV Charger Cover

EV Car Protection

Covers the repair or replacement of your home EV charger, whether damaged by accidents, rat bites, fires, or theft. This add-on ensures your charging equipment stays protected.

NCB Retention Cover

Money Saver

Your discount for no claim bonus in car insurance is only applicable as long as you don't file a claim. But with this add-on, you can retain your NCB discount after filing one claim during the policy year. This way, you can still use your car insurance coverage for major repair costs and enjoy your premium discount.

Electrical Accessories Cover

EV Car Protection

This add-on safeguards any electrical accessories you’ve installed in your car, such as audio systems, parking camera, GPS device, or rearview cameras. These are usually excluded from standard insurance, but with this add-on, your additional upgrades are protected.

Non-Electronics Accessories Cover

EV Car Protection

Customisations such as alloy wheels, decorative fittings, seat covers or bumper guards are not included in regular insurance. This add-on covers their repair or replacement if damaged in an accident, keeping your personalised fittings secure.

Geo Extension Cover
