The world today is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, and as a safety measure, Indians are going through a phase of lockdown. We believe that our contribution to the lockdown’s success (i.e. following the rules of lockdown and staying at home) will certainly payoff soon.
While we are confined in the four walls of our home, there is something that needs our major attention, i.e. maintenance of our two wheeler/ bike
. As during the lockdown, you won’t be able to use yourbike, you need to be extra cautious about the cleanliness and maintenance of the bike. This will ensure that when the lockdown ends, your bike is in perfect condition to drive again. Also, this can be a great way to pass your time during the lockdown period.
Listed below are some of the most effective tips, using which, you can take proper care of your bike.
I. Cleaning Tips
a) Park On The Center Stand
The first tip is to always keep your bike parked on the main stand, i.e. the center stand so that it is easier for you to clean all the parts of the bike. If you park the bike on the side stand, it may fall and some parts of your bike may get damaged. Even if you have a two wheeler insurance cover for your bike, it is not ideal to take the risk.
b) Use The Right Shampoo Or Soap
While cleaning your bike with water, make sure you use the right detergent/ soap/ shampoo. As far as possible, avoid using detergents as they may be harsh on the bike’s body, making your bike lose its luster and shine.
c) Use A Sponge
For a perfectly cleaned bike, use a sponge (or a cloth), dipped in soapy water, to gently clean the painted surfaces and remove all the dust. While cleaning the tight or tricky areas, use a toothbrush.
II. Maintenance Tips
a) Keep The Bike Covered
To ensure proper maintenance of the bike, keep it covered with a bike cover. This will protect the bike’s paint and chrome parts from the harmful rays of the sun. Also, always park your bike in a covered or shaded area.
b) Check For Lubrication
Another important point is to lubricate the springs, cables, and chain of the bike. At least once in a week, you should follow this practice of lubrication.
c) Disconnect The Battery
Lead-acid batteries in bikes lose charge very easily. Therefore, it is wise to disconnect the battery as you won’t be able to use it as long as the lockdown continues. If you do not wish to disconnect the battery, make sure to start your bike and let it idle for at least 20 minutes, once in a week.
The simple tips will ensure the proper functioning of your bike amidst this coronavirus lockdown. So, while you are at home, pay attention to both your health and your bike’s health. In case, your bike is not insured, do buy bike insurance
online and stay protected against any expenses arising out of uncertain mishaps.
