World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2020

World Antibiotic Awareness Week is celebrated every year from November 11 to November 17 about antibiotic resistance. It is for educating people about the proper use of these disease-fighting drugs. According to the World Health Organisation, antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria change in response to the medicine which is used. There is a need to create antibiotic awareness globally so that people know how to be healthy in difficult conditions.

History of Antibiotic Awareness Week

WHO senses a need for urgent discussion around antibiotic resistance as a global issue? The reason is, if you suffer from any disease and it can't be treated traditionally because you have developed antibiotic resistance, you can die. It is a growing problem as the ill living condition causing infections are becoming increasingly resistant to antibodies. The dilemma became so severe that in 2015 it was accelerated as an international emergency. A growing number of common infections such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, blood poisoning and foodborne diseases are becoming harder to treat as anti-biotic are becoming less effective.

With the commencement of this week, there were defined goals to be kept in mind to develop a global resistance framework that the nations could use to prioritize the use of antibodies in the right way. It can help in creating better anti-microbial features for medical health as well as for use in agriculture.

How to observe antibiotic awareness week

1. Teach kids to prevent anti-bacterial infection

Preventing infection is the first place where antibiotic resistance can start from. The rule of thumb is the essential cleanliness. Wash your hands frequently, keep any cuts properly clean and bandaged, and minimize its contact with family members to avoid further sickness. Keep the environment of your home clean, taking precautions when you cook food are some basic cleanliness methods which can go a long way.

2. Learning about food and anti-biotic qualities

There is a great saying that let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food. It means that it is necessary to pay attention to what you eat to keep a balance of all the minerals. A perfect balance would mean that you will rarely fall ill. Consumption of good vitamins and minerals make your immune system strong and reduces the chance of catching any infection. For years honey has been used as an anti-bacterial medicine. When combined with cinnamon honey can be used for treating many illnesses. Food is

a great source for anti-biotic, however, do consult your doctor before making any dietary changes.

3. Overall mood

We all have heard it several times that overall mood contributes a lot to our health. Healthy people have a much lower rate of any bacterial infection or any other diseases. People with better mood get back on their feet well and good more quickly than those with irregular moods. Thus, one of the key points is to focus on your happiness this week.
