Precautions to Take While Travelling Overseas Amidst the Coronavirus

Coronavirus, the most recent virus outbreak has majorly affected the lives of people, who are infected with it and even who are not. The outbreak has even instilled a fear of traveling among people. Even many airlines across the globe have canceled flights amidst the outbreak. Also, the people are making their travel plans more cautiously and considering canceling or delaying their plans, if possible. However, there might be situations when you cannot avoid traveling. Since the infestation has reached more than 25 countries across the globe, and there are no vaccinations available, it's important to take precautions while traveling.

Safeguard Yourself While Travelling Abroad Amid The Outbreak

1. Restrict Travel to Countries Infected With The Virus

This deadly virus was first detected in China, where more than 77,000 people found infected with it. Besides China, more than 1000 cases are confirmed in other countries mostly in East and Southeast Asia. Hence, the travelers are advised to reconsider the traveling plans to the countries, where outbreak is already an issue. Moreover, travelers should consider their risk tolerance ability, while traveling to these countries. If someone has a low tolerance for bearing the risks, he or she is more likely to get infected and hence, it's' better to postpone the trips.

2. Distance Yourself From People Who are Sick

Make sure you are not coming in close contact with someone who is already sick. Avoiding close contact can cut down the risk of acquiring respiratory infections such as cold, cough, flu or maybe COIVD-19. But limiting your exposure can be difficult while traveling on a flight, or a cruise, or any other public transport. An air quality expert stated that cruise air conditioners cannot filter the viruses. Whereas, the air conditioning systems of airplanes are more efficient in filtering out the air. But if you are sitting with someone who is coughing and sneezing, he can transmit the airborne germs. Hence, to lower the risk of the infection you must wear a face mask while traveling.

3. Follow Good Hand Hygiene

Good hand hygiene can reduce the risk of catching a contagious or a respiratory infection while traveling. Cleaning hands frequently is one of the most effective measures to control virus transmission. It is advised not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after touching a sick person. You can even use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer in the absence of soap and water.

4. Consult a Doctor If you Feel Sick

If you happen to develop any symptoms of respiratory infections or have the flu, distance yourself from other passengers and contact the onboard medical center and the help immediately.

5. Fly with a travel insurance

This is one of the most important aspects that travelers must not skip on. Travel insurance policies also cover medical benefits implied for Medical Emergency and Medical Evacuation. The medical benefits will be applicable for travelers who caught coronavirus during their trip. Although, an insurance policy cannot save you from contracting the infection but can provide necessary medical help. So, buy travel insurance online from Reliance General and avail all the necessary medical benefits on your trip.
