Mahindra cars and SUVs are known for their durability, spacious interiors and value for money. They're also incredibly versatile, with models like the Bolero, Scorpio and XUV becoming household names for their ability to tackle city roads and unpaved rural paths with ease. But despite their durability, Mahindra cars still need protection against unexpected damage.
For example, parking and driving in narrow city streets can be tricky. If you're not careful, you could end up hitting surrounding objects or even other vehicles, damaging your car and theirs. With Reliance Mahindra car insurance, repair costs for these types of accidental damage are fully covered, so you're not left paying for repairs out of pocket.
At Reliance General Insurance , we've streamlined our processes so you can quickly buy and renew car insurance. You can also download your policy through the Self-i app and have it saved on your phone. This way, you've always got your insurance papers with you!
Reliance General Insurance offers access to a wide range of add-ons, a simple claim process, around-the-clock customer support and a strong cashless garage network, all designed to keep your Mahindra vehicle protected.
13+ Add-On Covers*Customise your Mahindra insurance

Car insurance is a mandatory requirement for all car owners in India. So, you will need to insure your Mahindra car or SUV to avoid getting fined by the traffic police. If you're ever caught driving without a valid car insurance policy, you will need to pay fines ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹4,000. In some cases, you may even face up to 3 months of imprisonment.
Models like the Thar, Bolero and XUV500 are known for their durability, but heavy use on unpaved village paths and pothole-ridden city roads can lead to damage. So, if you hit a particularly bad pothole, it can result in tyre blowouts or repairs to the undercarriage components, like the exhaust system. With car insurance, these repair costs are covered.
Rising theft rates in major cities like Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai can spell trouble for new and high-end Mahindra SUV owners. With more expensive models like the XEV 9e costing up to ₹31 lakhs*, having our car insurance can help recover from total loss-type incidents like theft. We cover this loss by paying you the IDV amount. And if you get the Return to Invoice add-on with your plan, you get the original invoice price of your SUV fully reimbursed*.
Car parts, such as the engine, can get damaged during the rainy season, especially if your city or town is prone to flooding. For reference, engine repairs can cost up to ₹50,000*, sometimes more. With our comprehensive car insurance plan, repair costs due to floods can easily be covered. And if you get the Engine Protect add-on, you get specialised coverage for your engine so you're not left with a hefty repair bill after extreme weather events.
While fires are quite rare, they can cause irreparable damage, and repair costs can be quite high since you may need to replace fire-damaged parts altogether. But with our car insurance, you're fully covered! We cover damage to your Mahindra vehicle resulting from fire or fire-related incidents.
With a strong service and dealer network, it's easy to find parts for Mahindra cars even in smaller towns. But you can't always be sure where local garages get their parts from or if they use original parts. That's where we can help. Our network garages only use original parts to make sure you always get access to quality repairs.
A comprehensive policy offers dual coverage benefits. It will cover costs for damages done to another person or property, and damage to your SUV. E.g., A collision can result in major repairs for both your car and the other person's car. Our comprehensive policy covers both these repair costs. As a bonus, you also have access to 13+ add-ons with 3 EV-specific add-ons* to enhance coverage.

This usage-based plan lets you pay premiums based on how much you drive. You can choose a yearly limit between 2,500-10,500 km*, and get a 125 km grace buffer*. You can also carry forward unused kilometres and top up anytime if you exceed your limit. This plan is great for Mahindra owners who seldom drive, work from home, own multiple cars or frequently use public transport.
This is a basic plan that every Mahindra owner must have, as it's legally mandated. It's also our most affordable policy. It covers damages to third-party property and injuries caused to another person during an accident. We offer 1- to 3-year options* for new car owners, where you pay the premium once. So, you pay once when buying the plan and get covered up to 3 years, no renewals needed.
This is a standalone policy you can buy if you already have a basic third-party car insurance plan. It will only cover your Mahindra car. With this plan, we offer short-term* and long-term options ranging from 1 month up to a year*. So if you only need coverage for a couple of months, like during monsoon, you can get short-term coverage*, and if you need long-term coverage, you can get the 1-year option.
Reliance General Insurance offers features designed for how you actually drive your Mahindra SUV - whether it's through city traffic, village roads, or on highways.

Sometimes, basic coverage just isn't enough. Especially if you regularly drive your Mahindra car on crowded city streets, rough terrain like unpaved rural roads filled with loose gravel and potholes, or if you use it to transport heavy cargo. That is why we offer several add-ons so you can customise your Mahindra car insurance for enhanced protection on the road:
Also known as bumper-to-bumper cover, it offers full reimbursement for plastic, rubber, and fibre parts without depreciation. Ideal for Mahindra car owners, as replacements for trims and panels can be expensive.
This add-on sets the premium based on actual kilometres driven. You can select from 2,500 to 10,500 km* and top up if needed, making it ideal for low-mileage Mahindra users who travel short distances or work from home.
In case of total loss or theft, this Return to Invoice add-on ensures you receive the full original invoice value of your Mahindra car. It covers not just the vehicle's ex-showroom price but also includes taxes and registration fees.
With the Mahindra's heavy-duty diesel engine, repair bills can be high, increasing your out-of-pocket expenses. This covers the cost of engine repairs or replacements damaged due to water ingress, oil leaks or accidents.
Tyre protection cover add on includes repair or replacement costs for damaged tyres of your Mahindra SUV. It is especially great for covering the costs of repairing damages caused due to poor road conditions or a burst or bulge.
Covers the cost to replace lost, stolen, or damaged keys (including smart-key reprogramming) and lock set repairs. Key replacement cover is perfect for modern cars, such as the Bolero Neo, with pricey key fobs.
This add-on covers consumables like nuts, bolts, oils, and brake fluids, which usually add 5-10% to repair costs. It's especially useful if your Mahindra car often tackles rough or dusty roads.
It protects those stylish alloys or steel wheels that standard policies exclude. This add-on covers the repair or replacement of damaged rims caused by curbs, bad road conditions or accidents.
Get emergency towing, fuel delivery, flat-tyre changes, jump-starts, and on-site repairs anytime through our helpline or Self-i app. Mahindra drivers who use their car daily can especially benefit from this 24/7 support.
Covers loss of valuables that cost more than ₹5,000* like laptops or phones stolen from your locked car. Ideal for those carrying work gear.
If repairs at an authorised garage exceed three days*, you receive a daily cash allowance to cover alternative transport costs like cabs or train fares.
Covers your monthly car-loan EMIs if repairs take longer than 21, 42, or 63 days* - easing financial stress during extended garage stays.
Retain your No-Claim Bonus discount even after making up to 2 claims* in the policy year, so you don't lose out on future premium savings.
Protects aftermarket electrical fittings such as audio systems, parking sensors, GPS, and rear-view cameras that aren't typically covered under standard inclusions.
Covers theft or damage to custom fittings like seat covers, bumper guards and decorative trims - keeping your upgrades safe.
Covers damage to your Mahindra EV's battery from accidents, water ingress, power surges, or impacts. With repair or replacement costs covered, you avoid a massive out-of-pocket expense.
Insures repair or replacement if your Mahindra EV's motor fails due to water damage, short circuits, overheating, or impact. This add-on spares you from high motor repair bills.
Protects the repair or replacement of your EV charger if damaged by fire, theft, rodent bites, or power surges. This add-on ensures your charging setup stays secure and functional.
Extends your policy to cover travel in India's 6 neighbouring countries* (e.g., Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka). It is perfect for road trips across neighbouring countries.
Multiple factors determine your Mahindra car insurance premiums, from vehicle specifications and how much your car costs to the type of car insurance coverage you choose.
IDV, or Insured Declared Value, is the current market value of your Mahindra SUV and plays a key role in determining your insurance premium and claim amount. A higher IDV leads to slightly higher premiums but ensures better compensation in case of total loss or theft. You can choose or adjust your IDV at the time of buying or renewing your policy based on your preferences.
The Mahindra SUV's model, fuel type (diesel or petrol), and engine capacity all influence your insurance premium. A higher engine capacity or usage for commercial purposes generally results in increased premium rates due to the greater risk and wear involved. Modifications or accessories beyond factory specifications can also lead to higher premiums.
Choosing between a third-party and a comprehensive insurance plan directly impacts your premium amount. While third-party insurance plans are cheaper, comprehensive coverage offers protection against own damage, theft, and natural calamities. Adding optional covers may increase the premium slightly, but the broader protection is worth it for your Mahindra car's safety on the road.
While add-ons help extend your coverage to tyres, rims, keys, locks, and depreciable parts, they do come at an extra cost. However, these small premium increases can save you significantly during repairs. Choosing the right add-ons ensures your Mahindra car is protected where it matters most. They cover high-wear or high-cost parts often left out of basic policies, making your coverage more practical and complete.
If you have made no claims in the past year, you could get a No Claim Bonus (NCB) and enjoy reduced premiums at renewal. Plus, a history of frequent claims signals higher risk to insurers and may lead to increased premium rates in the following policy term. Maintaining a clean driving record can help you retain and even accumulate higher NCB benefits over time.
Installing IRDAI-approved anti-theft devices shows that your Mahindra car is better protected against theft-related risks. This added security lowers the insurer's risk, which can lead to a reduced premium on your policy. It's a simple upgrade that offers long-term savings. Plus, it adds an extra layer of safety when parking in unfamiliar areas.

How much does Mahindra car insurance cost?
Our Mahindra car insurance plans start at ₹238 per month*. If you're buying a third-party Mahindra car insurance plan, your premiums will probably be ₹3,461 per year* since most Mahindra model engine CCs fall within the 1000cc to 1,500cc bracket. To get a personalised premium quote, you can use our online car insurance premium calculator.
Are there discounts available on Mahindra car insurance?
Yes, we offer up to a 90% discount* for online purchases, an NCB discount of up to 50%*, a 2.5% discount* if you've installed anti-theft devices on your car, and another 5% discount* if you've got a membership with a recognised automobile association.
Disclaimer: These discount percentages are subject to change based on the age of the vehicle, vehicle make and model, and your chosen plan options. You can always contact us to ensure you have the most up-to-date information on your applicable discount percentages.
Which type of insurance is cheaper?
Third-party car insurance or own damage plans with PAYD covers are the most cost-effective option for those on a budget. However, you should know that third-party car insurance will not cover your car for damages.
If you're someone who uses your car frequently, we recommend getting at least an OD cover or a comprehensive plan. These may cost a little more, but they'll help you save more in the long run on repair costs.
Is insurance mandatory for a second-hand Mahindra car?
Yes. Whether your Mahindra car is new or pre-owned, it must have at least third-party insurance to be legally driven on Indian roads. Just scroll to the top of this page, enter your details and pay to get your car insurance policy instantly.
What happens if my Mahindra car insurance lapses?
If you let your policy expire, your vehicle will not be covered under insurance. This means if your Mahindra SUV gets damaged, you will not be able to file a claim and get reimbursement since your car insurance plan is no longer valid. Letting your policy lapse also means losing your accumulated NCB discount and other accumulated benefits.
Late renewals after the 30-day grace period will require a fresh inspection of your SUV, which could result in an increased premium amount. So, we highly recommend renewing your plan on time.
