Agra is a historical city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, located just 378 km from the state's capital, Lucknow. Agra is famous for its historical places, like Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort and more. Not many people know, Agra is even mentioned in the Mahabharata, where is called Agrevana. The city has a booming tourist economy and sees thousands of tourist footfalls every year. Agra is also one of the most populous cities in India and has developed a strong infrastructure over the years.
The Agra Lucknow Expressway, which was opened to the public in November 2016, has reduced the travel time between Agra and Lucknow from six hours to three and a half hours. A metro is also being planned for the city. When complete, it will reduce congestion and travel time in the city further. The state government has also approved an international airport for Agra, which will make it easier for foreign travelers to reach the city and enjoy its various delights.
State Highway 39 connects Agra to Chandausi, Jagen and Tantpur Marg. Agra is connected to Delhi by the Taj Expressway (also called Yamuna Expressway). Travelers can go to Mathura via Manpur. Likewise, the National Expressway 2 connects Agra to Gwalior. The city is also connected by many long-distance trains, to all the metro cities in India.
