Car Own Damage Insurance

Car Own Damage Insurance is a type of car insurance policy that provides coverage for damages to your own vehicle. Unlike third-party car insurance, which covers damages to third-party vehicles or property, Car Own Damage Insurance focuses on protecting your own car from various risks and perils.

An Own Damage (OD) policy helps you stay covered against damage caused to your vehicle due to accidents like fire, theft, etc. In case of an accident, an own damage cover compensates you for the expenses incurred to repair or replace parts of your car damaged in the accident.

For example, accidents are a common occurrence in areas where vehicles are driven at high speeds or on roads that are heavily populated with vehicles. If you're ever caught in an unfortunate incident where your car is damaged because you were in the middle of a traffic-heavy highway, then you're eligible to be reimbursed for expenses you incur for repairing your car.

NCB Retention Cover

No claim bonus (NCB) is a discount given by an insurer to a policyholder for making no claims during the policy term. NCB can be accumulated over the years and the discount ranges from 20% to 50% on own damage premium. This is simply a general insurance company's way of rewarding the customer for his/her good driving behavior.

• NCB retention cover is a great way to ensure that your safe driving and hard-earned bonus stay protected even if you make a claim. Let’s understand it with two examples. Suppose you did not make any own damage claim at the end of 12 months of the policy. In this case, the insurance company will offer you an NCB discount on car insurance premium when you renew your policy. Now suppose you had an NCB bonus of 45% and you make a claim, the NCB will be impacted and reduced to 0% in the coming year. To safeguard your NCB after such a scenario, an NCB Retention Cover comes in handy. This add-on cover protects the NCB discounts in case the insured makes an Own Damage claim.

Below mentioned are the features of the NCB Retention Cover*

  • Applicable for 1 OD claim
  • Renewal of policy with RGI ≤ 90 days of the expiry of the policy
  • Claim amount should not be >25% of IDV as mentioned in the policy schedule.
