Mumbai is the capital of the state of Maharashtra and India's commercial capital. Recently, the chief minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, said the state government wants to see Maharashtra become a $1 trillion economy by 2025. Mumbai is expected to play a big role in helping the state achieve this target. Mumbai is also one of India's oldest cosmopolitan cities. It was originally a group of seven islands which coalesced to become Mumbai city. The pride of Maharashtra, the Bombay Stock Exchange is located in Mumbai.
Mumbai is serviced by two world-class expressways, the Eastern Express Highway, which connects the eastern suburbs of Mumbai and the Western Express Highway, which connects the western suburbs. The two expressways are linked by arterial roads such as the Santa Cruz – Chembur Link road and Jogeshwari – Vikhroli Link road.
The Western Expressway leads into the National Highway 48, which connects Mumbai to Delhi and Bangalore. The Mumbai Suburban Railway, the Mumbai Metro, and the Mumbai Monorail, are other forms of public transport in the city. The city is also well connected by a fleet of state transport buses, private vehicles like rickshaws and private car fleets like Uber and Ola. Despite this, there are thousands of cars in the city, with hundreds of new cars being added every day.
