​​​The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R was originally produced by Suzuki, the first Wagon R rolling off the production block in 1993. Did you know, the R in Wagon R stands for 'Recreation'. It is also one of the first models to the use the now common 'Tall Boy' design, which maximizes cabin space. In fact, it is the most popular compact car to come out of Suzuki's stables, with over five million Wagon Rs produced and sold worldwide. The Wagon R is produced in India by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, a subsidiary of Suzuki, which has a 56 % stake in the company. The Wagon R was launched in India in 1999 and has been upgraded four times, in 2003, 2006, 2010, and 2013.

​Wagon R variants
The Wagon R is available in 10 variants – LXI, VXI, LXI (Optional), LXI CNG, VXI Plus (Optional), VXI (Optional), AMT VXI, AMT VXI Plus, AMT VXI Optional, and AMT VXI Plus Optional. The last styling update to the Wagon R was in 2013 (called the 'Stingray' variant). The LXI/VXI variants have black and beige interiors, whereas the VXI Plus has an all-black interior. The Wagon R has a 998 cc 2-cylinder engine and comes in petrol and CNG. Despite its age, the Wagon R is still one of the best entry-level car, attested by the fact that there are thousands of Wagon Rs on India's roads today.
