The South Korean automotive giant, Hyundai Motor Company, entered the Indian automobile market in 1996 as Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL). Over these two decades, it has become the second largest car manufacturer in India. HMIL has won ‘Indian Car of the Year’ award for three consecutive years—2014, 2015, and 2016. The most recent successful model from the Hyundai camp is the Creta, a compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) launched in 2015.
The launch of the Creta is well-timed considering that the Indian buyers are moving away from buying compact hatchbacks and sedans, and are looking for good SUVs instead. Better ground clearance and increased luggage space are the key aspects that are driving this change; however, higher prices remain a deterrent. The Hyundai Creta comes in three basic variants as listed below:
• Diesel - 1.6L CRDi VGT
• Diesel - 1.4L CRDi
• Petrol - 1.6L Dual VTVT
