Compensation depends on your policy. For example, third-party insurance won’t cover damage to your car. To get better claim settlements, choose a plan with higher coverage. Your insurer will compensate based on the policy terms and the type of coverage you select.

Reliance General Motor Insurance Claim Procedure

Cashless Motor Insurance Claim Process

  1. Register your motor insurance claims process within 24 hours of the incident. You can initiate the claim by either of the following options:
  • Calling our paid helpline number +91 22 48903009
  • Logging in to your Reliance Self-i App
  • Visiting the Motor Insurance Claim page
  1. Take your vehicle to a nearby authorised network garage to avail the cashless facility.
  2. Fill out the claim form and submit it to the surveyor along with the required documents. We ensure a quick claim survey by giving a call for a survey within 48 hours of claim initiation.
  3. Our surveyor assesses your vehicle for damages and claims. After confirming the liabilities, they approve or deny the claim based on their reports.
  4. Once the claim has been approved, you can get the repair work done. We will then settle the claim directly with the garage without you having to pay the bills upfront.

*Note that we do not pay for the uninsured parts, deductibles or depreciation. You must settle these amounts for such repair.

Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance Claim Reimbursement Process

  1. Initiate the claim with us in the same way mentioned above.
  2. Collect all the evidence of the incident, such as photographs and FIR in case of third-party claims or theft.
  3. Take your vehicle to any garage of your choice to get the repair work done.
  4. Gather all the bills, invoices or receipts from the garage to file a reimbursement claim with us.
  5. Fill out the claim form accurately, describe the incident, and provide accurate policy and vehicle information.
  6. Submit all the claims with all the required documents, including bills and invoices, to get reimbursed.

Note:

With reimbursement claims, you have to settle the bills with garages from your own pockets.

If the repair is done at a non-network garage, pay in full, keep the bills and send them for reimbursement. If the amount exceeds ₹20,000, a re-inspection is required.

Difference Between Cashless and Reimbursement Motor Insurance Claims

You can claim your Reliance Motor Insurance in two ways: Cashless Claims or Reimbursement Claims. The aim behind both claim options is to provide compensation for hefty damage repair or replacement costs. However, they both differ in processes, convenience and documentation requirements.

Cashless claims require no upfront payment to settle the garage bills, whereas reimbursement claims compensate after your repair work is complete.

Look into the details of the two major types of motor vehicle claims to understand which suits you better:

Parameters

Cashless Motor Claims

Reimbursement Motor Claims

Definition

Cashless claims, as the name suggests, mean that you are required to settle the network garage bill. You only need to settle the necessary ones from your pockets.

Reimbursement claims mean that the repair costs are reimbursed to you after the entire process of repairs is done.

Claim Process

The vehicle is repaired at any one of our network garages, and an insurance surveyor approves the claim on-site.

The vehicle can be repaired at any garage. After the repair, you submit the bills and documentation to us for reimbursement.

Bill Settlement Method

We settle the bill directly with the garage.

You pay the repair costs, and we reimburse you later.

Convenience

It is highly convenient because no upfront payment is needed.

It is less convenient because you need to bear the initial repair costs.

Documentation

Minimal documentation required.

Detailed documentation, including original invoices and receipts, is necessary.

Speed of Claim Settlement

Faster, as we directly deal with the garage.

Slower, as reimbursement requires more detailed verification.

How to Claim Motor Insurance Under Different Situations?

You may need to file a motor vehicle claim for damages caused during various situations. These include theft, accidents, own damage or third-party liabilities. While the claim process is broadly the same, different scenarios may require a different approach for filing the claim.

Here is a detailed explanation of common situations under which motor vehicle damage claims are valid:

Accidents

  • In case of an accident, inform us about the incident by calling our helpline number +91 22 48903009 (Paid Number) and the police immediately.
  • Get guidance from our claims team, and do not move the vehicle until we or the police instruct us to do so.
  • File an FIR or Fire Brigade report, whatever is applicable to your case, and secure a copy.
  • Once you receive permission to move your vehicle, you can take it to the nearest network garage or any other garage, depending on your claim preference.
  • Whether you opt for cashless claims or reimbursement claims, you must initiate the claim within 24 hours of the incident's occurrence.

Theft

  • If your car has been stolen, inform us and the police immediately to proceed with motor car claims. You can also lodge a complaint at the transport department.
  • Register a complaint at the nearest police station and collect a copy of the FIR.
  • Additionally, you will also require theft endorsement from the concerned RTO and tax payment receipt.
  • Next, initiate the claim with us using the steps mentioned above.
  • You will also need to submit keys or service booklets to us as part of the claim process.

Third-Party Liabilities

  • In case your insured vehicle is involved in damage to third-party property, person or vehicle, ensure that you inform us and the police immediately.
  • You should file an FIR at the police station, get a copy of the FIR and Charge Sheet, and collect photographic evidence.
  • If you are a victim of third-party damages, ensure to get the policy details of the concerned individual.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

  • If you're involved in a hit-and-run accident, report the incident to the police and us immediately and file an FIR.
  • If possible, gather any available evidence, such as eyewitness statements, photographs of the scene, and vehicle damage.
  • If the offender is untraceable, compensation may be claimed under the Solatium Fund Scheme of 1989, as amended by the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, administered by the General Insurance Council.

Total Loss or Damage

  • If your vehicle is declared a total loss (where the cost of repairs exceeds 75% of the vehicle's IDV), inform Reliance General Insurance immediately.
  • A surveyor from the insurance company will be appointed to assess the damage. Ensure the vehicle remains untouched until after the inspection.
  • Once the vehicle is declared a total loss, Reliance General Insurance will process the claim. The settlement amount will be based on the Insured Declared Value (IDV) of the vehicle minus any applicable deductibles.
  • If you have an add-on cover, “Total Cover”, you will receive the full road price of your vehicle.

Common Reasons for Motor Insurance Claim Being Rejected

Policy Exclusions:

Claims related to scenarios explicitly excluded in your policy (e.g., wear and tear, mechanical breakdown) will be rejected.

Insufficient Documentation:

Denial can result from missing or incomplete paperwork, such as repair invoices, police reports or claim forms.

Non-Disclosure of Information:

Failing to provide accurate details about your car, its use, or previous claims can lead to rejection.

Driving Under the Influence (DUI):

Motor vehicle accident insurance claims arising where the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not covered.

Expired Policy:

Claims made after the policy’s expiration date or during a lapsed period are not eligible.

Unauthorised Repairs:

If you repair your vehicle without informing the insurer, the claim may be denied.

Raising a Fraudulent Claim:

This is one of the most common grounds for the rejection of motor insurance claims. Claims arising from exaggerated damages or invalid statements result in rejection and further legal consequences.
