Compensation depends on your policy. For example, third-party insurance won’t cover damage to your car. To get better claim settlements, choose a plan with higher coverage. Your insurer will compensate based on the policy terms and the type of coverage you select.
*Note that we do not pay for the uninsured parts, deductibles or depreciation. You must settle these amounts for such repair.
Note:
With reimbursement claims, you have to settle the bills with garages from your own pockets.
If the repair is done at a non-network garage, pay in full, keep the bills and send them for reimbursement. If the amount exceeds ₹20,000, a re-inspection is required.
You will need the following details to file a claim:
Policy Number
Your Name and Details
Vehicle Number
Vehicle Make and Model

You can easily track your motor accident injury claim through the Reliance General Insurance website or Reliance Self-i App:
A comprehensive motor claim covers both own damage and third-party liabilities. Here’s the process:
Contact Reliance General Insurance to report the damage immediately. Provide details of the incident, including the location, date, and extent of damage.
The insurer will assign a surveyor to inspect your vehicle and assess the damage. Submit all necessary documents, including the claim form, FIR (if required), RC, driving licence, and repair estimates.
For cashless claims, take your vehicle to a network garage, where the insurer settles the bill directly. If you opt for reimbursement, get your vehicle repaired and submit the bills for reimbursement.
Reliance General Insurance will process the claim and reimburse you based on the surveyor’s report.
You can claim your Reliance Motor Insurance in two ways: Cashless Claims or Reimbursement Claims. The aim behind both claim options is to provide compensation for hefty damage repair or replacement costs. However, they both differ in processes, convenience and documentation requirements.
Cashless claims require no upfront payment to settle the garage bills, whereas reimbursement claims compensate after your repair work is complete.
Look into the details of the two major types of motor vehicle claims to understand which suits you better:
Parameters
Cashless Motor Claims
Reimbursement Motor Claims
Definition
Cashless claims, as the name suggests, mean that you are required to settle the network garage bill. You only need to settle the necessary ones from your pockets.
Reimbursement claims mean that the repair costs are reimbursed to you after the entire process of repairs is done.
Claim Process
The vehicle is repaired at any one of our network garages, and an insurance surveyor approves the claim on-site.
The vehicle can be repaired at any garage. After the repair, you submit the bills and documentation to us for reimbursement.
Bill Settlement Method
We settle the bill directly with the garage.
You pay the repair costs, and we reimburse you later.
Convenience
It is highly convenient because no upfront payment is needed.
It is less convenient because you need to bear the initial repair costs.
Minimal documentation required.
Detailed documentation, including original invoices and receipts, is necessary.
Speed of Claim Settlement
Faster, as we directly deal with the garage.
Slower, as reimbursement requires more detailed verification.
You may need to file a motor vehicle claim for damages caused during various situations. These include theft, accidents, own damage or third-party liabilities. While the claim process is broadly the same, different scenarios may require a different approach for filing the claim.
Here is a detailed explanation of common situations under which motor vehicle damage claims are valid:
Claims related to scenarios explicitly excluded in your policy (e.g., wear and tear, mechanical breakdown) will be rejected.
Denial can result from missing or incomplete paperwork, such as repair invoices, police reports or claim forms.
Failing to provide accurate details about your car, its use, or previous claims can lead to rejection.
Motor vehicle accident insurance claims arising where the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not covered.
Claims made after the policy’s expiration date or during a lapsed period are not eligible.
If you repair your vehicle without informing the insurer, the claim may be denied.
This is one of the most common grounds for the rejection of motor insurance claims. Claims arising from exaggerated damages or invalid statements result in rejection and further legal consequences.
Notify our insurance provider about the accident as soon as possible to initiate the auto insurance claim.
Take photos of the damage and obtain all the necessary documents like police Charge Sheets or FIR and repair estimates.
Opt for cashless claims at our network garages to simplify the motor insurance claim process.
Keep an open line of communication with us and follow our motor insurance claim team’s instructions carefully.
Ensure complete compliance with all policy guidelines to avoid complications and unexpected rejections.
If your motor insurance claim is rejected by our claims team, we provide reasons for rejection. Review the reasons carefully and understand the missing points.
Collect any missing or additional documents, such as missing photos, receipts or third-party documents, to support your claim.
If the rejection is due to miscommunication or lack of clarity, you can communicate with us with a letter or email to clarify the same.
Write an official appeal letter to the motor vehicle insurers. Provide all the necessary documentation and reasons why the claim should be reconsidered.
If your appeal is not successful, you can approach the insurance ombudsman or regulatory body to review your case for further assistance.
If your issues remain unresolved or require further guidance, contact our Grievance Redressal team.
The first thing you must do after a motor accident is inform us and the police about the incident. Move your vehicle only when they instruct you to take it for repairs. File a claim with us and complete the repair work.
FIR is not mandatory for all claims. It is required when claiming your Reliance Motor Insurance for theft, third-party damage or severe accidental damage involving multiple vehicles.
The settlement amount for the claim depends on the type of claim. For example, if you have made a claim against medical expenses under the Personal Accident Cover, the claim will depend on the severity.
However, vehicle damages are calculated based on your IDV, the age of the vehicle (depreciation) and voluntary or mandatory deductibles.
You can track the status of your motor insurance claim here. Simply enter your policy number or claim number to proceed.
Understand the reason for rejection, communicate the missing information or evidence with us, submit the missing documents (if any) and re-appeal for the claim.
You must inform us about the damages and the incident within 24 hours of its occurrence.
No, own-damage car insurance does not offer coverage for third-party liabilities. To receive coverage for your vehicle and third-party liabilities under one policy, opt for our comprehensive car insurance.
NCB is offered for not claiming your insurance during your policy tenure. Thus, it is not valid if you are making a claim. However, you can retain your NCB with our NCB Retention add-on cover to protect the accumulated bonus.
For a newly purchased car, we recommend buying a comprehensive car insurance plan to secure financial protection against various risks. This plan gives overall protection and access to our 10+ wide range of add-on covers.
