Singapore is a tiny island country, located on the Southern part of Malaysia. The entire country is spread over just 719 sq km, less than 1/5th of the size of the Goa but it ranks highly on all development indicators, including trade. The name of the country is derived from the Malay word, Singapura, which is in turn taken from the Sanskrit word, Simhapura or City of the Lion.
It is estimated, 38% of the Singapore's population consists of expats. The country has four official languages – English, Mandarin, Tamil, and Malay. Don't be fooled by the country's small size. Singapore is an economic powerhouse. It is one of the four Asian Tigers, the others being South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Singapore is known for its determined and efficient government – which has helped the country become a center for trade and commerce in South East Asia. It won't be wrong if we say Singapore is the most modern city in South East Asia.
