Travel Insurance for Turkey

Despite its ancient history, modern-day Turkey is a relatively new country, founded only in 1923. Spectacular coastlines, cosmopolitan cities, quaint villages, majestic mountains and a great inviting culture, make Turkey one of the best travel destinations in the world. In Turkey, we find a blend of east and west, thanks to its strategic location, between Asia and Europe. In fact, the city of Istanbul or Constantinople, as it was known in the past, is the only city in the world shared by two continents.

The capital of Turkey is called Ankara and it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Ankara is distinguished by its old-world architecture, parks and gardens, and world-class restaurants and hotels. The Turks pride themselves on being courteous and kind to their visitors and any tourist visiting Turkey is treated like an honored guest. Don't be surprised, if you are invited to visit someone's home for refreshments by strangers in Turkey.

Turkey has a rich archeological history and the place is studded with remnants of its glorious past. During various times in history, parts of Turkey were ruled over by the Greeks, Romans, and Ottomans. The latter even succeeded in establishing a vast empire that one point, stretched all the way from the Arab lands to parts of Europe. There's so much to see in Turkey, a short visit just won't it justice. The must visit cities are Ankara, Antalya, Marmaris, Bodrum, Ephesus and Istanbul.

The Turks have a great culinary tradition. Turkish food like the Doner kabab, Turkish delight, Baklava, Dolma, Pilaf, Durum, and Menemen are world famous. International cuisine is served in the major cities like Ankara and Istanbul. Besides these, there are hundreds of small family restaurants that serve native Turkish food at affordable prices. Do try the local beers and wine (Turkey is a secular country, though it has an Islamic heritage, thanks to Kemal Ataturk).
