What Is A Vehicle Identification Number And Where Can You Find It On Your Bike?


A VIN or Vehicle Identification Number is a unique code. VIN consists of letters and numbers, which can be used to identify vehicles. With the help of the VIN, one can easily get the information about where this vehicle was manufactured. VIN consists of 17 characters. These 17 characters are classified into three sections: 

  • World Manufacturer Identifier: Characters 1 to 3 of VIN are known as the WMI code. This code tells from where the vehicle has been manufactured. 
  • Vehicle Descriptor Section: Characters 4 to 9 of VIN consists of the Vehicle Descriptor Section. This section gives characteristic features of the vehicle. 
  • Vehicle Identifier Section: Characters 10 to 17 of VIN consists of the Vehicle Identifier Section. This provides information about the model year, engine, plant code, and transmission.

    What Is A Chassis Number And Where Can You Find It On Your Bike?


    Chassis Number of the bike is the part of the VIN. Your bike’s Chassis Number is the last six characters of a VIN. 

    If you can find VIN on your bike, then you can also find Chassis Number as it is the part of VIN. You can take the help of the mechanic if you are finding it difficult to find the Chassis Number. Other than bikes, you can find this number on the Registration Certificate and Owner’s Manual. One can check this number online. But only authorized users such as two wheeler insurance companies, banks, etc. can check this number online. 

    What is the Engine Number and Where Can You Find It on Your Bike?


    As the name suggests, an Engine Number is placed on your bike’s engine. This number is also used for identification, but it is different from the Vehicle Identification Number.

    You can find Engine Number on your bike’s engine. However, you need to look at an angle to see the Engine Number on your bike’s engine. You can also find it on the Registration Certificate and Owner’s Manual.

    Just like the Chassis Number, the bike’s Engine Number can also be checked online via government website (VAHAN) by authorized users only.
