Reliance Inland Travel Care Policy - Terms & Conditions

Summary of Terms:

This summary of key terms under the Reliance Inland Travel Care Policy (“Policy”) is offered to Uber India Systems Private Limited (“Uber”) by Reliance General Insurance Limited (“Insurer”). The cover under the Policy can be availed by Passengers who have booked a Trip through applications on mobile devices or other online platforms (the “Uber App”) , Passengers for whom a Trip is booked by a registered user of the Uber app or Passengers accompanying any of the above.

The insurance cover under the Policy will be applicable only to the Trips booked through the Uber App. The insurance cover under the Policy starts when the Passenger(s) enter the Rideshare Vehicle, and lasts till the Passenger(s) leave the Rideshare Vehicle. The Passenger(s) is(are) covered only when he/she is travelling on the Trip and the Accident occurs while he/she or his/her baggage are present in the Trip subject to other terms and conditions under the Policy.

Key Definitions:

  • "Insured Person/Insured" means Passenger.
  • “Independent Driver” means an individual who is an independent contractor who provides Transportation Services operating a Rideshare Vehicle.
  • “Passengers” means person(s) who have purchased the Policy and are travelling in the Rideshare Vehicle or who are travelling in the Rideshare Vehicle and have had their Trip booked by someone else, who has purchased the Policy.
  • "Period of Insurance" means the period of time commencing when the Passenger enters the Rideshare Vehicle and finishes when such Transportation Service is completed or cancelled.
  • “Rideshare Vehicle” means those motor vehicles (including vans, pickups, motorcycles, or auto rickshaws) operated by an Independent Driver in order to provide a Transportation Service.
  • “Transportation Service” means the provision of Passenger transportation services by Independent Drivers to or on behalf of users via the Uber App.”
  • “Trip” means Transportation Service during the Period of Insurance.

General Conditions:

  1. This Policy is applicable to registered Passengers who have booked a trip through the Uber App, Passengers for whom a trip is booked by a registered user of the Uber App or Passengers accompanying any of the above. The Passenger is covered only for the duration in which he/she is travelling in the Rideshare Vehicle.
  2. The Policy will be in the name of the registered Passenger of Uber with a unique ID.
  3. Any individual who is in the Rideshare Vehicle, but not booked through Uber App, or not booked for by a registered user of the Uber app or is not accompanying a Passenger, would not be covered under this Policy.
  4. The claim will not be permissible in case the number of Passengers (including Independent Driver) is more than the permitted seating capacity of the Rideshare Vehicle.
  5. In the event of an Accident where more than one Passenger is on a Trip, the cover is applicable to Passengers of a Rideshare Vehicle on a pro rata basis.
  6. The Insurer's maximum liability arising out of an Accident during the Trip shall not exceed the Sum Insured outlined in the Schedule.
  7. Warranted that in case of a valid and admissible Death claim, compensation will be paid to Passenger's Nominee/legal heir.
  8. For any claims under the Policy FIR (Death & PTD claims) and for all other claims booking /travel details is mandatory.
  9. Medical Expenses /Outpatient expenses due to illness will not be covered.
  10. Emergency Evacuation includes Ambulance Transportation.
  11. Missed flight Connection cover can be claimed only if the destination is specified as "airport" in the beginning while booking the ride itself. This cover is only payable during the "period of insurance” and is applicable for non-refundable expenses of domestic flights only subject to the estimated time of arrival (ETA) to the Airport departure is 90 min before the scheduled departure time of flights for "Daily Rides" and 120 min before the scheduled departure time of flights for international travel.
  12. Passengers are covered only for the Trip in which he/she is travelling inside the Rideshare Vehicle. Therefore, any Accident injuring the Passenger during the stay (overnight/ day), halts or pit stops is not covered.
  13. Emergency Medical Expenses due to Injury is payable for inpatient hospitalisation only. “Inpatient care" means treatment for which the Insured Person has to stay in a hospital for more than 24 hours for a covered event.
  14. The claim under OPD treatment will only be payable if there is no inpatient hospitalisation required for the injury and the cause of loss is due to an Accident with a valid FIR if the incident is reported to law enforcement authorities.
  15. Burden of proof lies with Uber to prove, on the balance of probabilities, that the deceased person was on board the Rideshare Vehicle at the time of the Accident.
  16. In the event of payment to a claimant under Permanent Total Disabilities (PTD), which is thereafter followed by a claim for Accidental Death (AD), only the difference of the balance of the Sum Insured between AD and PTD shall be available to the claimant.

General exclusions:

  1. Any claim relating to events occurring before the commencement of the cover or otherwise outside of the Period of Insurance.
  2. Any claim relating to expenses incurred for the treatment of pre-existing disease / conditions / illness / injury, save for exacerbation / acceleration as a result of an Accident.
  3. Treatment if that be the sole reason or one of the reasons for the Insured/Insured Person's travel and temporary stay in his/her current location.
  4. Any claim if the Insured/Insured Person.
    1. Is travelling against the advice of a physician.
    2. Is receiving, or is on a waiting list to receive, specified certificate.
    3. Has received terminal prognosis for a medical condition.
    4. Is taking part in a naval, military or air force operation.
  5. Death or disablement resulting from pregnancy or childbirth.
  6. Suicide or attempted suicide, intentional self - inflicted Injury or acts of self-destruction, whether the Insured Person is medically sane or insane.
  7. Uber Intercity Trips, Uber for Business (U4B) Trips, Uber Connect Trips and Uber Rental Trips arranged through the Uber App are not covered under this Policy.

Filing of Claim & Documents required:

To file a claim for any of the coverages, Passengers are requested to intimate the claim on Insurer's web hosted electronic claim application or using the helpline number 022 4890 3009 (Paid) for registration of claim.

Easy Steps to lodge Claim:

  • Intimate the claim details on 022 4890 3009 (Paid) or fill the EFNOL Form, Uber Claim Intimation
  • Submit the required documents to RCare.
  • RCare adjudicates the case as approval/repudiate or seeks additional details.
  • Once a claim is approved, payment will be made by NEFT within seven (7) days.
