The Baleno is a premium hatchback from India's best-known car maker, Maruti Suzuki. The car was first produced in 1995 (the earlier versions were also called Balenos). The latest version of the Baleno was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. So what is a hatchback? In a hatchback, the rear window is merged into the rear door, creating more space. In some hatchbacks, including the Maruti Baleno, the rear seats can be folded to create more space for luggage. As of now, the Baleno is assembled only in India for national (Indian) and international markets. The Baleno is also one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its category. The petrol version returns 21.4 km per liter while the diesel version gives 27 km per liter.

The Baleno is available in petrol and diesel variants in 12 models. They are Sigma 1.2, Delta 1.2, Sigma 1.3, Zeta 1.2, Delta 1.2 AT, Delta 1.3, Alpha 1.2, Zeta 1.2 AT, Zeta 1.3, Alpha 1.2 AT, RS 1.0, Alpha 1.3. The car is packed with safety features such as frontal and side airbags, auto braking with collision warning, prompting the Euro New Car Assessment Program, to award it four stars for overall safety. The latest version of this car is called Baleno RS. This version is equipped with a more powerful engine, which also makes it more sporty than earlier versions. The Baleno RS is one of the most successful hatchbacks sold in India, with Maruti Suzuki reporting that it sells between 800 to 1000 Balenos every month.
