  • He then said how due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the world is known to understand the vital role of nurses and midwives. According to the Director-General, these nurses and midwives put themselves at risk to alleviate suffering and save lives.
  • These nurses and midwives are taking full care of bringing new-born babies safely into the world.
  • These nurses are learning how to deal with patients infected from COVID-19. This saves time for the doctors and their workload gets divided.
  • Due to this pandemic, nurses and midwives have not gone to their homes. As they want to keep their family protected.

  • He then focussed on the protection of the health workers and how important is it to provide them with proper safety equipment.
  • At last, he added that there are fewer nurses and midwives around the world. He shared the report with the world, Nursing Now, and the International Council of Nurses on the State of the World’s Nursing. In this report, the WHO is talking about the condition of nurses across the world.
  • The report suggests that 80 percent of the world’s nurses work in countries making up just half of the world’s population.
  • That reports say that the number of nurses globally is increasing, but it's still not enough, especially in South East Asia, Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean, and some parts of Latin America.
