Preventing Cancer With Some Lifestyle Changes

Cancer is one of the top 10 causes of death in India. Yes, it is true that cancer is scary, but the story of people who have fought cancer and have survived gives hope. Most of the survivors say that there is nothing that can assure a cancer-free life. However, you can bring certain changes in your lifestyle that can prevent cancer. Purchasing a health insurance policy online from a reputable insurer such as Reliance General Insurance will be the one change that you must bring in your lifestyle. Other than that, you should bring the following changes in your lifestyle to prevent cancer:

Moderate Consumption of Alcohol And Tobacco

Drinking excessive alcohol can increase the risk of different types of cancer that can affect oesophagus, mouth, liver, female breast, colon, larynx, and pharynx. Studies have shown that men can consume two drinks per day and women can consume one drink per day to stay away from cancer. However, you should gradually reduce your alcohol consumption to one drink per week to one drink per month. Chewing tobacco can also lead to oral and pancreatic cancer. You should avoid tobacco in all forms, whether it is passive smoking, or it is vaping, as doing this can lead to lung cancer.

Start Exercising

If your BMI or Body Mass Index is higher than usual, your chances of getting cancer of the kidneys, pancreas, postmenopausal breast, etc increases. There are studies that have proven that regular exercise can reduce the risk of breast, colon, lung, prostate, and kidney cancer. Regular exercise will not only reduce the risk of getting cancer, but it will also help you maintain a healthy weight. You can take 45 minutes from your busy day to exercise. You can start with moderate and then with time move to more complicated physical activities.

Eat More Nutritious Food

According to several studies, eating processed meat in excess can make you prone to a few types of cancer. There are reports that say that an obese woman has a higher chance of getting cancer than a healthy woman. Also, men with increased levels of saturated fats are more prone to contract prostate cancer. Hence, it is advisable to only consume saturated fat, processed, and red meat in moderate quantity. You should include more nutritious food in your diet like fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, fish, and olive oil.

Protect Yourselves From Harmful UV Rays

One of the most common and most preventable types of cancer is skin cancer. Reduce going out when the sun is at its peak. However, if you have to go out, cover yourself as much as possible, and wear sunglasses that protect you from harmful UV rays. Apply sunscreens with an SPF of 30 or more on your skin.

Other than the changes mentioned above, you should also opt for regular medical check-ups. This will detect your cancer at an early stage (if any). This way you will get treated at an early stage. And your health insurance policy will take care of your finances, so that you only have to worry about getting recovered.  You should consider getting a critical illness health insurance which gives a lump sum amount of money when claimed. It helps you manage finances better for a bigger health issue.
