Europe is famous for holiday, leisure, studies and entertainment. If you are initiating travel plans to any of the Schengen countries, then buying a travel insurance policy is mandatory.​


What is Schengen Visa?


Schengen Visa is a representative of 26 European countries which have mutually decided to eliminate passport and immigration controls at their joint borders. Within the Schengen area, the citizens are allowed to travel freely in and out of the group of countries as one single country sharing equal international travel rights. The Schengen area features as a single country for international travel purposes with a common visa policy.


Schengen Travel Insurance:


Before embarking on a trip to Schengen country, a person should know that travel insurance is a compulsory thing for Schengen area. So it is advisable to opt for the best plans suited as per one’s requirement and duration of stay.

 
Travel insurance is necessary because the cost of medical expenses in Europe is high and may dent holes in the savings of an individual. Like all other Travel Insurance plans​, Schengen Travel Insurance also covers some of the basic things like Emergency medical expenses incurred by self or any member of the family while travelling abroad for any sudden illness, injure or death.


It also covers expenses for any emergency medical evacuation back to India.


Like other insurance, it also covers, transfer of mortal remains back to India if the death happens on trip or burial expenses in case of untimely demise.


Any accidental bodily injury during the course of the trip also gets covered. It also covers permanent disability resulting during the trip due to accident.


Cost of obtaining a fresh or duplicate passport in case of a lost passport or any other items of personal possession.

 
If there is total loss of the checked in baggage by the carrier, that also gets covered.

 
Compensation to third party is provided in lieu of any involuntary actions results in someone’s death, or accident.


Like every other Travel Insurance plans, there is list of things which are not covered while a person opts for Schengen Travel Insurance Plans. So it is always mandatory for a person to read the policy documents and understand the technical terms associated with the policy.

 
Some common items which are not covered by Schengen Travel Insurance Policy are:


Pre-existing medical conditions, unless it’s a life threatening condition
Expenses incurred on account of committing suicide, self inflicted injuries or illness resulting in hospitalisation, mental disorders, Anxiety, stress or depression, Venereal diseases, Alcohol/drug abuse Or Sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS.


Hospitalisation resulting in travelling against the advice of the physician is not covered. Travelling abroad to receive medical treatment also doesn’t get covered by the travel insurance.


Any issues faced due to theft or loss of passport when left unattended does not get covered.

 
In case of loss of checked baggage, no partial loss or damage shall become payable.
